Thinking Montessori, one family's view

Thoughts from Montessori parents, Dustin and Valerie Dill...

What we think when we think Montessori:

M
aterials simple, yet providing a concrete base for learning concepts and developing skills
Older students helping younger students, similar to family teaching/learning
New concepts expanded upon in series, building upon what has been mastered
Teachers guiding instruction but encouraging self-exploration
Environment, environment, environment
Self-paced achievement
Sensorial approach providing full bodied education – sight, taste, sound, touch, smell
Originality and individuality supported as part of the health of the overall community
Respect for oneself, respect for others, respect for the Earth
Involvement of family to encourage a total Montessori experience at school and at home

Our daughters Nina , age 5, and Lena , age 3, are thriving at the school.  They cannot wait to get ready in the morning to get to class.  We as a family are thriving through our Montessori experience as well.  The mind set transcends from the classroom and into our daily family life.  We see our daughters as their own persons, learning and growing as independent individuals consistently conscious of caring for themselves, each other, and those around them.

Thanks in more ways than we could ever express!
